Sterling Silver Antique Spoon Payne and Baker Manufacturing Co. 1901-1960.  Payne and Baker was founded in 1896 in Providence, RI.  This ring will be made from a sterling silver souvenir spoon created to celebrate Noccalula Falls, Gadsden, AL.  Dates to sometime before 1960 and is at least 60 years old. This spoon can accommodate ring sizes of 6 to 8.

The ring will display the chief of the Legend of Noccalula.  The story goes that long ago, on a mountain summit within sight and sound of a rushing waterfall, there lived a great Indian Chief whose young daughter, Noccalula, was famed far and wide far and wide for her beauty and loveliness of character.  Many gallant braves lobbied the old chief for Noccalula's hand, but only one brave favored by the chief.  Noccalula pleaded as her heart was already given to a young brave from her own tribe.  The chief refused to listen and the brave was driven from the tribe and marriage arranged with the chief's favored brave.  On the wedding day, Noccalula allowed herself to be arrayed in festive wedding robes.  But overcome with grief she quietly slipped away as the soft rhythmical rush of waters called for her.  In one leap she took the step that ended her life.  Heartbroken, the remorseful father gave the great cascade his daughter's name.  Since that day the waterfall has been called Noccalula.
